We can't all be like a Sanderson sister from Hocus Pocus!!

Once upon a time, many moons ago.. my partner and I were discussing how I hadn’t been to a wedding; I said “I’ve never been to a wedding, but I’ve been to a funeral!”

Confused, he turned me to and asked,“why did you put those two together? as though they are interconnected?”

My response, “they are both milestones in life.”

I wasn’t so much referring to the funeral itself, but to death.

Since then, I’ve not only been to a few weddings, but I’ve also deepened my relationship with death...

🦋With the inevitable.

🦋With the only true shared experience amongst all living existence on Earth.

🦋With, perhaps, the truest form of liberation…

Ram Dass said that death is “like taking a tight shoe off.”

Naturally, the tight shoe is our body which our soul can finally be free from, once again (our souls have done this dozens, and dozens of times).

Ooof!!! can’t you just FEEL that full body sensation of relief that you experience after a long day wearing uncomfy shoes and finally being free of them?!?!

Yet, it’s so so scary for our society to embrace our one shared truth. We are taught to fear, and avoid, and hoooold onto everything about this life.. including life itself.

Even stuff like gray hair and wrinkles terrifies us!!

Because it’s symbolic that we are innately approaching the finish line. As witchy we might be, we are not the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus!! we cannot make a potion to make us youthful and immortal!!!

All we can do is really do is learn to deepen our connection with this truth.. to make that tight shoe feel a bit more like a roomy Birkenstock!! (or whatever comfy shoe you can think of).

My relationship with shamanism and psychedelics has completely changed my prospective on death, I now feel that I have a relationship with death.

Death is part of me, and I am part of her.

One of my favorite aspects of being an integrative shamanic psychotherapist is innately being able to incorporate death, dying, and grief into the work, with a totally different lens than what we are taught by our fear-based society.

🤍I am so grateful 🤍
